Because the #1 search query that leads people to this blog is “law mommy soap,” I thought I should quickly update everyone on what is going on with the soap store.
We have temporarily stopped making soap. Whatever you see in the store is what we currently have in stock. When it is gone, it won’t be replaced until August at the earliest.
Why?
The biggest reason is because we are wrapping up our time here in Austin. Jose and I are our only “employees,” and with trying to prepare for the move, Jose working every evening, my upcoming graduation (and the career changes that will follow) and, most importantly, our family responsibilities, we think it is only fair to our family and our customers that we wait until after we are settled in our new home before we start cranking out soap again. Not only that, I take the bar in July, and I think I should probably prepare…
But don’t worry because we will be opening up the store again by late summer, and there will be lots of changes. I was told once that everyone and their sisters were making soap and we should find something else to do (like we don’t do lots of “something else,” but…). It was meant to be an insult, but there is a grain of truth in it. Soapmaking has become super popular…and competitive. And right now, we are not in any position to be competitive. Right now, we need to give our time and attention to preparing our family for our new (and exciting!) transitions.
A competitive market doesn’t change how much we love making soap. In fact, anyone who knows me well knows that there’s nothing like a healthy competition to bring out my best. That is why we do plan to continue after the break, but with an added twist. The new “twists” require a lot of preparation, though. Insurance changes, making sure we abide with regulations, lots of research, etc., etc. For those of you wondering if we are going to try body care stuff, the answer is no. At least not for the next year or two. There’s something else that we have a lot more experience with that we think the soap would pair with perfectly. And that will make us competitive…in a different market.
I promised to make this quick, so I will. I just want everyone to know that the soap is on hiatus for exciting reasons (like graduation!), but will return. Thank you all for your support. We still have no intention of partnering with large corporations, but I would like to acknowledge and thank the ones who have taken interest. Your encouragement means a lot.
But just because there’s no soap doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to stop by! We have lots of cool stuff going on. The blog is now full of fun recipes, handy cleaning tips, and ideas for saving money. Plenty to keep you busy until the soap is back! :)
